Playhouse on Park opens season seventeen finale production of The Wild Party

Playhouse on Park opened its season 17 finale production this week with Andrew Lippa’s musical The Wild Party. The jazz-infused production is scheduled to run from July 8 through August 16 at the West Hartford venue. The staging is directed by theatre co-founder and co-artistic director Sean Harris, with choreography by co-founder Darlene Zoller and music direction by Colin Britt.

The musical is based on a poem by Joseph Moncure March and features a narrative focused on the excess and energy of the 1920s. The storyline follows a group of characters whose relationships unravel over the course of a single evening. Due to depictions of drug and alcohol use, strong language, violence, and sexual content, the production is recommended for audiences ages 17 and older.

The show marks the final production for Sean Harris in his capacity as co-artistic director before he transitions into an artistic advisor role. Longtime collaborator Sasha Brätt is scheduled to step into the position of co-artistic director starting in the theater’s 18th season. Harris noted his long-term fascination with the 1920s and expressed an appreciation for fresh, risky theatre.

Preview performances are scheduled for Wednesday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, July 9 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Regular performances will run from July 10 through August 16, with showtimes on Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. Sunday performances will be followed by a formal cast talkback session.

Special morning matinees are scheduled for Thursday, July 16 and Friday, July 24 at 10:30 a.m. with all seats priced at $25 plus service fees. Tickets for standard preview dates are $35, while regular performance tickets range from $45 to $55, subject to a $3.50 service charge. Senior and military discounts of $2.50 are available, and patrons under the age of 40 can purchase tickets to any performance for $35.
