Interactive 1940s tours and Revolutionary War exhibits coming to Weston

The Weston History and Culture Center will open its campus for a series of special Sunday hours this summer. Visitors can access the historical site from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on May 31, June 7, June 28, July 26, August 2, and August 30, 2026.
The historical site features interactive exhibits, guided tours, and outdoor walks designed for both children and adults. Admission tickets are sold at the door. Entry is free for members and children aged 5 and under, while adult tickets cost $5 and tickets for children aged 6 and older cost $3.
Located inside the historic Coley Barn, the new “Weston at Work” exhibit allows visitors to interact directly with historical tasks. Guests can weave on a loom, card wool, and operate a rope-and-pulley system to lift a hay bale. The display incorporates historic photographs and rare Bradley Axe tools to highlight the immigrant communities, people of African descent, women, and children who shaped the local workforce.

Guided tours are also available at the Coley House, which stands as the only historic house museum in Connecticut dedicated to interpreting home-front life during World War II. The immersive setting allows younger visitors to interact with vintage typewriters, rotary phones, Lincoln Logs, and authentic 1940s games.
For those interested in early American history, the Visitor’s Center is hosting two new exhibitions focused on the Revolutionary War. “Sarah Treadwell: Connecticut Mom, American Patriot” details the contributions of a local woman during the war. A companion exhibit, “Local Patriots and Loyalists of the American Revolution,” explores how the conflict divided families and individuals across Weston, Fairfield, Wilton, Norwalk, and Ridgefield.
Visitors can finish their time on the campus by walking through the Daniel E. Offutt, III Sculpture Garden. The outdoor area features whimsical art pieces created by the former Weston resident and philanthropist.
The Weston History and Culture Center is located at 104 Weston Road in Weston, with parking and the main entrance accessible on High Acre Road. The “Weston at Work” exhibition received funding from the Daniel E. Offutt, III Charitable Trust, the Twenty-Seven Foundation, CT Humanities, the Elizabeth Raymond Ambler Trust, the Kiwanis Club of Weston, and private donors, while the Sarah Treadwell exhibit was funded in part by CT Humanities.
