Student collaborative art exhibit opening at American Mural Project on October 2

The American Mural Project will open its new rAMP Gallery on Friday, October 2, in Winsted. Led by artistic director and founder Ellen Griesedieck alongside executive director Jennifer Chrein, the new space features collaborative art projects created by thousands of students across the United States.

Located along a 120-foot ramp positioned behind the venue’s five-story mural, the rAMP Gallery displays student artworks created over a 23-year period. The collection includes various art media and offers an intimate view of student-created details, with some installations hanging 12 to 14 feet overhead and others reaching 20 feet in height.

The exhibit incorporates state-by-state projects depicting themes ranging from the Gullah people in South Carolina to environmental activism inspired by Paul Hawken and the recent Regeneration Project. Each section provides descriptions detailing the distinct student projects that contribute to the overall display.

Access to the rAMP Gallery is included with regular admission to the American Mural Project, located at 90 Whiting Street. Both the main exhibit and the new gallery are open Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Regular admission costs $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and veterans, $5 for students, and is free for children ages 5 and under, with group and school discounts available. The venue offers an audio tour featuring voices involved in creating the collaborative projects, with financial support for the rAMP Gallery provided in part by the Diebold Foundation and the Northwest Community Bank Foundation.
