Local history, film screenings, and jazz tribute coming to Wallingford library

A series of educational presentations, cultural discussions, and musical performances will take place in Wallingford next month. The Wallingford Public Library has released its schedule of adult programming for June 2026, featuring four distinct events.

The monthly schedule begins on Tuesday, June 2nd, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with “Nutmeg Pride: A History of LGBTQ Connecticut.” Presented by the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History, the lecture explores the state’s LGBTQ history, focusing on individual stories of resilience and societal progression. This is a hybrid program allowing attendees to participate in person in the library’s Community Room or virtually via Zoom.

On Tuesday, June 9th, the library will host a special screening and discussion of the 2024 short film Elijah from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Directed by Razid Season and starring Mithila Gazi, the 20-minute unrated film depicts the coming-out journey of a second-generation Bengali-American teenager navigating a transphobic immigrant culture. The production features a local connection, as several scenes were filmed in Wallingford and the cast includes town residents. A post-screening Q&A session will feature the director, cast members, and local LGBTQIA+ advocate Jillian Celentano in the Community Room.

The library will join the regional historical programming for America’s 250th celebration on Wednesday, June 10th, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a presentation titled “Revolutionary Wallingford.” Jerry Farrell, Jr., a local historian and former president of the Wallingford Historic Preservation Trust, will deliver a talk detailing the town’s role in the Revolutionary War and the regional issues that motivated local residents to support a break from England. The presentation will be available both in the Community Room and over Zoom.

The final scheduled event celebrates the centennial of a jazz legend in honor of the Juneteenth holiday. On Tuesday, June 16th, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., musicians Wayne Tucker and Nicholas Fiorese will present “Miles Ahead: Celebrating 100 Years of Miles Davis.” The tribute performance focuses on Davis’s career and his historic June 1970 Fillmore East concert, incorporating open improvisation, funk, and jazz. Patrons can watch the live music inside the Community Room or stream the session through Facebook Live.
