‘L.A. Law’ alumni to reunite for playreading at Westport Country Playhouse

The Westport Country Playhouse has announced a special “L.A. Law” cast reunion for its upcoming Script in Hand playreading of the comedy “A Tailor Near Me” on Monday, June 8, at 7 p.m.

The one-night-only performance features the play’s author and Emmy-nominated actor Michael Tucker, who will star alongside his fellow “L.A. Law” alumni Jimmy Smits and Jill Eikenberry. Tickets for the 90-minute event are priced at $35.

Written by Tucker, “A Tailor Near Me” follows the story of Sam (played by Tucker) as he brings a pair of tight suit pants to a neighborhood tailor, Alfredo (played by Smits). The routine fitting evolves into an unexpected friendship and a series of alterations in both of their lives. Eikenberry, who is married to Tucker and has appeared in three of his previous plays, will read the production’s stage directions.

“Michael Tucker has written a beautiful, funny, deeply observant play about friendship, reinvention, and the surprising ways we shape ourselves to fit the lives we think we’re supposed to lead,” said Mark Shanahan, Westport Country Playhouse artistic director and Script in Hand series curator.

The reading will be helmed by director James Glossman, a theater faculty member at Johns Hopkins University whose recent credits include the short film “Albert’s Flower” and the world premiere of Nicky Glossman’s “The Road to Jerusalem.”

“It’s an absolute joy to bring Mike Tucker’s brilliant, funny, and deeply humane two-hander ‘A Tailor Near Me’ to Westport, and with the cast of my dreams,” Glossman said.

The 2026 Script in Hand Playreading Series is supported by Joyce Hergenhan and the White Barn Program of the Lucille Lortel Foundation, with Barbara Streicker serving as the 2026 programming and season sponsor. Media sponsorship is provided by Moffly Media and WSHU Public Radio. Following the June 8 performance, the series will continue with scheduled readings on Sept. 14, Oct. 5, and Nov. 30.
