Connecticut young adult author to lead teen writing workshop this July

A two-part fiction-writing workshop designed for both aspiring and experienced teen writers will take place in Fairfield County later this month. Led by local young adult author Lori Miller Kase, the interactive program aims to help participants generate new story concepts and provide guidance on existing novels or short stories.

The sessions will run from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 20, and Wednesday, July 22. The event is free to attend and will be hosted in Room 210 at The Westport Library, located at 20 Jesup Road.

The initial session will focus on the foundational elements of fiction writing, using targeted prompts to explore plot, character development, setting, and point of view. The concluding session will transition into a collaborative workshop environment, allowing students to share their scenes and receive feedback from both peers and the instructor.

Kase brings extensive teaching experience to the program, having taught creative writing to students from elementary through high school, and currently serves as an instructor at the Westport Writers’ Workshop. Her debut young adult novel, The Accident, was published by Woodhall Press in October 2025 and achieved recognition as a finalist for the Tassy Walden Awards.

Her work has also been featured in notable publications including The New York Times and The Atlantic, and she is a past recipient of The Letter Review Prize for Short Fiction. Signed copies of her novel will be available for purchase at the library following the conclusion of the workshop series.
