Connecticut middle and high school musicians can now apply for the second annual Battle of the Jam, a showcase at District Music Hall in Norwalk on Sunday, March 7, 2027. Solo artists and bands in all genres are encouraged to submit music for a chance to perform on a professional stage. There is no fee to apply.

Students must submit recordings of two songs as audio or video files or links through an online submission portal. The submission period runs through Jan. 15, 2027. Students must be enrolled in a middle or high school in Connecticut and may perform solo or in a band.

Up to 12 acts will be selected to perform before a panel of music industry professionals and an audience of family, friends, and music fans. Prizes and opportunities include professional consultations and the chance to record at Factory Underground with an industry producer. Selected performers must be available on March 7, and students under 18 must provide parent or guardian consent.

Schools, music teachers, school counselors, youth organizations and community partners are encouraged to share the submission link with students and families through newsletters, school announcements and social media.

The inaugural Battle of the Jam drew more than 200 students, families and community members and helped fund 10 scholarships for District Backstage, a program that introduces students to live event production. Supported by a grant from JAM Studio and a collaboration with Factory Underground, the 2027 event will direct sponsorships and donations toward scholarships for the Backstage and Beat Builders summer camps. Local businesses and corporate partners interested in sponsoring can contact Alison Woods, director of development, at alison@nhcpadevelopment.org or 917-714-5298.

The New Haven Center for Performing Arts, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting live entertainment, arts education and community engagement in Connecticut. Its venues include District Music Hall in Norwalk, College Street Music Hall and Westville Music Bowl in New Haven. Factory Underground is a Norwalk-based music and production facility, and Factory Underground Tech provides education and training in music, audio and video technology.

The submission page URL in the release was still a placeholder, so no link is included.
