Connecticut Farm Transition Grant opens applications with nearly $750,000 available

The Connecticut Department of Agriculture has opened applications for the 2027 Farm Transition Grant, with nearly $750,000 in funding available following action in the 2025 state budget. The department also moved the program to a new online application platform. The changes follow record numbers of applications.

“Since its inception, the Farm Transition Grant has helped farmers statewide expand production, diversify offerings, and strengthen long-term sustainability,” said Agriculture Commissioner Bryan P. Hurlburt. He said the increased funding and streamlined portal aim to make the program more accessible, responsive and aligned with industry needs.

Eligible applicants include Connecticut for-profit agricultural producers and cooperatives. Awards range from $500 to $49,999, with cash match requirements between 25% and 50%. Four grant categories are available: the New Farmer Micro Grant, Infrastructure Investment, Research and Development, and Innovation and Diversification.

Applications are due Jan. 11, 2027, by 4 p.m. EST. Awards are expected in February 2027, and agreements are scheduled to begin April 1, 2027. All applications must be submitted through the Euna Grants online portal, and applicants are encouraged to create an account early.

The department will hold an FTG Overview Webinar on Nov. 19, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Virtual office hours will follow on Dec. 15, 2026, from 1 to 2 p.m., and Jan. 4, 2027, from 3 to 4 p.m. Technical help is available by phone at 844-407-3572, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST, excluding holidays.

The Farm Transition Grant is authorized and funded through Connecticut General Statutes Section 22-26k to strengthen the economic viability of the state’s agricultural businesses. Since 2019, the Lamont-Bysiewicz administration has invested $3.87 million in the program to support farm expansion, diversification and technological advancement. The investments have reached agricultural businesses in every county and supported beginning farmers.

The Connecticut Department of Agriculture’s mission is to foster a healthy economic, environmental and social climate for agriculture. It develops, promotes and regulates agricultural businesses, protects agricultural and aquacultural resources, and enforces laws pertaining to domestic animals. The department also promotes public understanding of the diversity of Connecticut agriculture and its contribution to the state’s economy.
