Nathan Hale Homestead announced return of annual Flag Field for Heroes

The Nathan Hale Homestead has announced the return of its ninth annual Flag Field for Heroes display, which will be on view from July 5 through July 25, 2026. The historic grounds will be arranged with dozens of American flags, each dedicated to an individual military service member, veteran, or personal hero. The seasonal installation will be accessible to public visitors from dawn until dusk daily on the front lawn of the historic property.
An official public opening ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, July 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., taking place alongside the weekly Coventry Farmers’ Market. The introductory event features a lineup of guest speakers paired with traditional patriotic music, and general admission to the ceremony is free. The local exhibition is organized in direct collaboration with the Coventry American Legion Post 52 and the Coventry Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Members of the public can sponsor an individual flag for 10 dollars by visiting the museum in person or submitting a request through the Connecticut Landmarks website. Each sponsored flag will be decorated with a specialized tag indicating the designated honoree’s name, military branch, and active service dates. Site Administrator Anne Marie Charland noted that the annual initiative provides a dedicated space to express gratitude for the contributions and sacrifices of regional service members.

The historic site also participates in the national Blue Star Museums program, an annual collaboration managed by the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, and the United States Department of Defense. The physical homestead serves as the 1755 birthplace of Nathan Hale, who was recruited as one of the country’s earliest spies before being caught and executed by British forces in September 1776. The property was originally purchased and restored in the early 20th century by historic preservationist George Dudley Seymour.
The museum is located at 2299 South Street in Coventry and is open for public tours from May through October each year. Regular seasonal hours are scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., as well as Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. General inquiries regarding flag purchases, historical background, or tour scheduling are managed directly by museum administrative staff via telephone or email.
