Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum seeks volunteers for National Historic Landmark

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum will host two volunteer recruiting and orientation sessions in May for residents interested in supporting the National Historic Landmark.

The sessions are scheduled for May 5 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and May 9 from 9 a.m. to noon at the museum, located at 295 West Ave.

Volunteer Coordinator Robin Lynch will lead the meetings, which are designed to highlight how local citizens can contribute to the preservation and operation of the 19th-century estate. Management noted that a background in history is not required to participate.

Opportunities for volunteers range from archival research and administrative support to staffing the museum gift shop and conducting guided tours. The museum also relies on community members to assist with large-scale annual events, including its “Old-Fashioned Flea Market” and annual gala.

“This discussion will highlight how unique skills can make a lasting impact,” the museum said in a statement.

Attendees will receive an informational tour of the mansion and light refreshments. The orientation also provides a chance to meet members of the museum’s board of directors and staff.

The museum offers flexible schedules, with roles available for those seeking weekly commitments or those who prefer to help with occasional special projects. Positions are open to adults and youth ages 16 and up.
