Westport Library hosts Community Conversation on Jewish Identity and Antisemitism

The Westport Library’s Common Ground Initiative will present a timely and thought-provoking event, “Understanding Jewish Identity, Antisemitism, and Allyship,” on Thursday, November 13 at 7 p.m. in the Library’s Trefz Forum.
The 90-minute presentation and discussion aims to deepen understanding of both the historical and contemporary realities of antisemitism while exploring what it means to support and stand in allyship with the Jewish community. Through open conversation, attendees will gain insight into how antisemitism manifests in today’s culture and politics, and how collective reflection can lead to stronger community connections.
The session will be led by Eli Cohn-Postell and Kara Wilson of Project Shema, a training and support organization that helps communities recognize and address contemporary forms of antisemitism. Cohn-Postell, Project Shema’s vice president for research and innovation, and Wilson, the organization’s chief strategy officer, are both senior facilitators with extensive experience in guiding meaningful discussions that balance intellectual depth with empathy. Together, they bring a thoughtful and inclusive approach to what can often be a difficult but vital topic.

The program, part of the Library’s Common Ground Initiative, reflects Westport Library’s ongoing commitment to fostering respectful dialogue and community understanding. The initiative seeks to build common ground across differences—creating opportunities for residents to engage in positive, productive conversations about complex social issues and the shared values that strengthen civic life.
According to the Library, the evening will encourage attendees to explore the far-reaching impact of antisemitism, strengthen their sense of allyship, and gain a greater appreciation for the diverse lived experiences within their community. Organizers hope participants will leave with a deeper understanding of Jewish identity, a stronger connection to their neighbors, and a renewed commitment to inclusivity and empathy.
The event is free and open to the public, and registration is strongly encouraged. All members of the community—including residents, families, educators, clergy, and civic leaders—are invited to attend.
“Understanding Jewish Identity, Antisemitism, and Allyship” is sponsored by Jon and Bobbi Roth and presented in partnership with the Westport Police Department to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.
