Westport Country Playhouse unveils expanded 95th season featuring Wilde, Pulitzer Winner, and Agatha Christie

Westport Country Playhouse 2025-2026 season in Westport Connecticut

Westport Country Playhouse (25 Powers Ct, Westport, CT 06880) has announced its 95th theater season, running October 2025 through August 2026, with an expanded lineup of performances. The season will feature three full-scale productions, each with three-week runs, along with three shorter-run, add-on events.

“This year, something exciting is always in season at the Playhouse,” said Artistic Director Mark Shanahan. “From laugh-out-loud comedies and Big Band celebrations to powerful new works and chilling mysteries, every visit promises something unforgettable.”

The mainstage season opens with The Importance of Being Earnest, Oscar Wilde’s sparkling Victorian satire, running October 28–November 15. Mistaken identities, secret engagements, and sharp wit drive this classic comedy about love, society, and one formidable aunt. Production sponsors are Athena and Daniel Adamson.

Next is Primary Trust, Eboni Booth’s 2024 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, a gentle and moving story about change, friendship, and quiet resilience. Running April 14–May 2, the play follows Kenneth, whose comfortable routine is disrupted when he loses his job and finds unexpected guidance from a friend and a tiki bar.

Closing the main season is Agatha Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, adapted for the stage by Shanahan in collaboration with Agatha Christie Ltd., playing July 14–August 1, 2026. Dubbed “the greatest whodunnit ever written,” the classic mystery features Hercule Poirot in a twisting tale of secrets, suspects, and suspense.

The season’s add-on events include

Tuesdays with Morrie (September 4–6), based on the best-selling memoir by Mitch Albom, adapted by Albom and Jeffrey Hatcher. The play is a poignant exploration of life and legacy through the renewed bond between a former student and his dying professor.

A Sherlock Carol (December 13–21), returning for its third year by popular demand. Written and directed by Shanahan, this family-friendly holiday mystery blends characters from Arthur Conan Doyle and Charles Dickens in a witty mash-up featuring Sherlock Holmes and a grown-up Tiny Tim. Production partner is Claire Wilkes.

Big Band Broadway (January 29–February 1), part of the Broadway Scores at the Playhouse series, will feature Tony Award winner Debbie Gravitte. This vibrant revue combines iconic Broadway hits with the bold brass and rhythm of the Big Band sound.

“Our 95th season embodies the essence of the Playhouse experience—timeless stories, beloved characters, and compelling new voices,” said Shanahan. “We’re thrilled to offer a season that entertains, inspires, and connects our community.”

Season ticket packages are now available at the Playhouse box office. Online subscriptions open Wednesday, June 18. Single tickets will go on sale July 15. Add-on events are priced separately.
