Westport Country Playhouse to present Ailey II dance performance

Westport Country Playhouse will host a performance by Ailey II on Thursday, September 24, at 7 p.m. The ensemble serves as the second company of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, bringing together early-career dance talent with emerging choreographers.

The upcoming performance features 12 dancers under the leadership of artistic director Francesca Harper. Returning company members include Kamani Abu, Jada Ammons, Christian Butts, Adanna Smalls, and Eric J. Vidaña. They are joined for the 2026-27 touring season by new dancers Julie Colotroc, Daijia Monaé, Vic E. Davis, Jaydin Javier De Jesús, Michelle Osanya, Jalyn Postadan, and Dominic A. Roberts.

The evening’s repertory features three distinct works, including Harper’s In the Moment, which focuses on themes of presence and transformation. The program also includes Open Door, choreographed by Ronald K. Brown and Arcell Cabuag to music by Arturo O’Farrill & the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, along with Alvin Ailey’s Night Creature, set to music by Duke Ellington.

Founded in 1974 to connect students from The Ailey School with the professional dance field, Ailey II focuses on dance performances, training, and community outreach. The organization was previously guided by Sylvia Waters from 1974 through 2012, building a foundation of national touring and regional programming.

Tickets for the event at Westport Country Playhouse are priced at $75 and $80. Production sponsors for the show include Judy and Scott Phares, alongside Adam Clemens, with season sponsorship provided by Barbara Streicker and media support from Moffly Media and WSHU Public Radio.
