Westport Book Shop Welcomes May art exhibitor Rowene Weems
The Westport Book Shop is pleased to welcome photographer Rowene Weems as guest art exhibitor for the month of May, at the Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place. Rowene will be displaying “Wish You Were Here: Postcards from Westport”, a group of sixteen photographs depicting scenes around town, which are part of a larger series of “love notes” to Westport.
Of her choice of medium, Rowene says “I sometimes feel the camera is an extension of my body — it has always been my instrument for artistic exploration, experimentation and expression. Through the lens, I gain a deeper understanding of and connection with the world.” Having moved to Westport from Wyoming four years ago, Rowene continues, “The beauty of Westport’s waterside landscape is such a lush contrast to my Rocky Mountain home. I find it a continuing source of inspiration.”
Over the last 35 years, Rowene’s photography has been chosen for competitions and exhibits in venues across the country, including the New York Center of Photographic Art, Santa Fe Photography Workshops, NYC Limner Gallery, Fort Collins Center for Fine Art Photography, and Nicolaysen Art Museum. Rowene holds a BA in Fine Arts from Kenyon College, and has also studied art at Boston Museum School, the University of Colorado, Santa Fe Photography Workshops, and Rocky Mountain School of Photography.
Rowene Weems’ photography will be on exhibit at the Book Shop through May 31, 2023. All pieces on display are available for purchase.

Westport Book Shop, a nonprofit used book store, is downtown Westport’s only source for gently used and antiquarian books, vintage vinyl records, CDs, DVDs and audio books. It is located at 23 Jesup Road, right across Jesup Green from the Westport Library.
The Book Shop’s “Drew Friedman Art Place” is an area of the store dedicated to exhibiting the work of community artists year-round, on a rotating basis. Miggs Burroughs, a Trustee of the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, and a founding member of The Artists Collective of Westport, is curating these exhibits, which change monthly.
The art exhibit is open to the public during the Book Shop’s regular business hours: Sundays and Mondays from Noon to 5 p.m., and Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
