Westport Book Shop hosts June art exhibit featuring Connecticut painter John Bygott

Connecticut artist John Bygott is exhibiting a selection of his seascape oil paintings at the Westport Book Shop this month. The collection is on display at the shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place through June 30. The artwork is open for public viewing and available for purchase.

Bygott is originally from Fairfield and graduated from the Paier College of Art in New Haven. His background includes fine art, advertising, graphic design, and interior design. He also pursued further art studies at New Haven’s Creative Arts Workshop and The Silvermine School.

The artist has spent nearly two decades painting professionally. His career also includes 25 years in interior design and over three decades working in or managing art galleries. This includes a period in the 1980s when he operated his own gallery in Westport to represent regional New England artists.

“In my work I strive to share with the viewer a snapshot of my inspiration,” Bygott said. He noted that he has always been fascinated by the horizon and the connection between the sky and the earth.

The community can meet the artist during a reception on Wednesday, June 17, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Because space is limited, the shop requires an RSVP via phone at 203-349-5141 or email at RSVP@westportbooksaleventures.org.

The exhibit aligns with regular gallery hours at 23 Jesup Road in downtown Westport. The nonprofit used bookstore is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from Noon to 5:00 p.m.
