Westport Book Shop announces Markley Rizzi as December’s exhibit

The Westport Book Shop is pleased to welcome local artist Markley Rizzi as guest exhibitor for the month of December at the Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place. Markley will be exhibiting a group of her oil paintings.
“My awareness of the earth, water and sky, and their relationship to the human spirit, allows me to paint freely, drawing on life experiences such as being a mother and my love for the water and the environment,” said Markley. “I explore the subject of water as a metaphor for human emotions. Water surrounds us, mirroring the fluidity of human thoughts and emotions. I use light to capture the subjectivity of memory,” she continued.
Markley Rizzi had a successful career in graphic design, advertising and marketing, serving as an Art Director for Playtex International brands, as a Vice President and Creative Director for FCB Advertising Agency, and as a Managing Director at Marketing Corporation of America. She holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the Ringling College of Art and Design, and she has studied arts at Yale University, the School of Visual Arts and the Silvermine Arts Guild.
The Westport Book Shop will hold a reception for Markley and her exhibit on Wednesday evening, December 18, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Space is limited; please RSVP to the Book Shop at 203-349-5141 or by email to bookshop@westportbooksaleventures.org
Markley Rizzi’s artwork will be on exhibit at the Book Shop through December 31, 2024. All work on display is available for purchase.
Westport Book Shop, a nonprofit independent used book store, is downtown Westport’s only source for gently used and antiquarian books, vintage vinyl records, CDs, DVDs and audio books. It is located at 23 Jesup Road, right across Jesup Green from the Westport Library.
The Book Shop’s “Drew Friedman Art Place” is an area of the store dedicated to exhibiting the work of community artists year-round, on a rotating basis. Miggs Burroughs, a Trustee of the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, and a founding member of The Artists Collective of Westport, curates these exhibits, which change monthly.
The art exhibit is open to the public during the Book Shop’s regular business hours: Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from Noon to 5 p.m.
