Award-winning jazz singer/songwriter and West Hartford, Connecticut native Allegra Levy will celebrate the release of her first album for children and families, Songs for You and Me, with a special hometown show for young and old alike at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 4 at the Mandell JCC, 335 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford, Connecticut.

“I’m thrilled to be performing at the Mandell JCC,” says Allegra Levy. “My very first performance, at the age of eight, was in The Boyfriend, on the Mandell JCC stage! I have such wonderful memories of singing at the JCC in other musicals like Fiddler on the Roof and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I can’t wait to share the music of Songs for You and Me with local families in a setting I hold so dear.”

Allegra Levy’s show will feature a 10-piece band with players from both NYC and Connecticut, including Allegra’s fellow jazz moms, Connecticut-based trumpeter/vocalist Leala Cyr and New York-based vocalist Neha Jiwrajka, as well as bass player Tim Norton who is originally from West Hartford, and Allegra’s brother, baritone sax player and critically acclaimed jazz biographer Aidan Levy. Allegra is planning a festive program of jazz-infused, family-friendly music that aims to get everyone from babies to boomers dancing and singing together. Highlights will include the unbeatably catchy food song, “Noodles!,” “Los Animales,” which was recently named a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, “It’s So Hard to Be You,” a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition, and “Hello Song,” a joyful, multilingual greeting among friends, conceived as a kind of modern-day “It’s a Small World.” Allegra promises treats and fun giveaways for everyone!

Named a Top 10 Rising Star among jazz vocalists in DownBeat’s 2021 Critics’ Poll, Allegra Levy is that rare jazz songbird who pens her own tunes. Songs for You and Me offers families a jewel-box collection of sparkling songs that fit right in with the music that Allegra loved while growing up in West Hartford: Raffi, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell, Ella Fitzgerald, and more. “This album was written for everyone,” Allegra notes, “because the little kid in us still just wants to sing along.”
