Weir Farm National Historical Park Announces 2024 Artists-in-Residence
Weir Farm National Historical Park is pleased to announce six artists selected for the 2024 Artist-in-Residence Program.

- July – Sonja Haroldson. Public Open Studio Program July 27; 11:00 – 12:30
- August – January Yoon Cho. Public Open Studio Program August 24; 11:00 – 12:30
- September – Jessica Mehta. Public Open Studio Program September 28; 11:00 – 12:30
- October – Catherine Sollman. Public Open Studio Program October 26; 11:00 – 12:30
“As a park with such deep roots in the history and ongoing pursuit of contemporary American art, the Artist-in-Residence Program is critical to achieving our mission,” says Superintendent Linda Cook. “We are thrilled to provide this opportunity to a diverse and talented group of artists, and look forward to watching how this experience inspires their work.”
This program is supported by the generosity of Park partners. Thank you to the Weir Farm Art Alliance for supporting the application and jury process for 2024, and to the Friends of Weir Farm for their continued support of artists during their residencies and for hosting the monthly Open Studio programs in the Park.
The call for applications to participate in the Artist-in-Residence program in 2025 will be open from November 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025.
Nationwide, more than 50 National Park Service sites host artist residency programs. Weir Farm has inspired thousands of artists for more than 140 years, including over 250 Artists-in-Residence.
This year the program received 78 applications in varied visual art mediums, of which six artists were selected by a panel of three jurors. The Park extends sincere gratitude to jurors Nina Buxenbaum, Kimberly Henrickson, and Liz Egan for their expertise and time to select this year’s cohort of Artists-in-Residence.
Nina Buxenbaum was born and raised in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY to a politically active, multi-racial household. She received her MFA degree in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art and her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis in Drawing and Printmaking. She is a Full Professor at York College, CUNY, in Jamaica, NY, in the Department of Performing and Fine Arts as well as a member of the Silvermine Guild of Artists in New Canaan, CT. Ms. Buxenbaum is a founding member of the KINDRED Creative Residence & Agro-ForesT in Fletcher, VT, BIPoC led inclusive community based on democratic principles and sustainability, integrating the creative arts and environmental justice, through project/place based education. She maintains an active studio practice in Brooklyn, NY and Bethel, CT.
Kimberly Henrickson is in her 7th year as Executive Director at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking (CCP) in Norwalk after having previously held seats on CCP’s board and Artist-in-Residence committee. Her involvement in the non-profit and fine art printmaking community has continued to expand and develop over the course of the past 20 years. She founded her own business and held various roles focused on client relationship management for both creative and technology organizations. For more than 15 years, Kimberly has been involved with the Print Club of New York, where she holds the position of Membership chair after eight years as President for the organization. She serves on the National Advisory Council for the Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State University and the Advisory Board for the Norwalk Art Space with leaders in the arts community of Fairfield County. Kimberly received a BA in Art History from Penn State University and served two years as President of the Penn State College of Arts and Architecture Alumni Society Board. She also completed coursework towards an MA degree in Art History at Hunter College in New York City.
Liz Egan received her BFA in Painting from Purchase College, NY. She holds a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration from Buffalo State College. She is currently experimenting with multiple methods of printmaking – silkscreen, woodcut, monotype, and trace monotype to challenge and build imagery. Her love of large-scale painting has also led her to complete numerous mural projects, installations and theatrical set designs. Liz has lived many lives professionally. She has been a non-profit arts administrator and consultant at numerous organizations. As an Art Teacher on the Connecticut Shoreline, she developed an award-winning sequential curriculum for grades K-12 and presented workshops at regional and national conferences in art education methods and techniques. She developed her own label of hand printed fabrics and apparel, Liz Unleashed. Her passion for painting, her professional experience in non-profit arts administration, and commitment to community development led her to revitalize a 70-year-old community arts organization.
