Webb Deane Stevens Museum awarded the Preserving America Grant to help conserve the Joseph Webb House
The Webb Deane Stevens Museum is among 121 organizations nationwide to receive a 2024 Preserving America Grant from Americana Corner, an online resource focused on the founding of our nation.
The funds from the Preserving America grant will help the Museum perform critical repairs to the interior shutters and entry door to the Joseph Webb House, a National Historic Landmark. The house, built in 1752, served as George Washington’s headquarters in May 1781, and is where Washington met with French commander, the Comte de Rochambeau, to finalize the joint military campaign leading to the victory at Yorktown.
Due to overwhelming interest and the historic significance of the projects that sought funding, Americana Corner will award $1,404,188 in total grant funding for 2024. These grants will help fund a diverse range of projects, including restoring historical sites, structures and objects; creating educational displays to enhance the visitor experience; and implementing strategies to increase visibility and reach of historical sites. Tom Hand, founder of Americana Corner, said, “I am thrilled to be able to help others across America tell our country’s wonderful story.”
“Generous and committed individuals like Mr. Hand are the heart of historic preservation in America,” said Brenton Grom, Executive Director of the Webb Deane Stevens Museum. “This funding makes a critical project at the Webb House possible for us.”
