Wallingford Public Library announces May event slate featuring dance, documentary screening

The Wallingford Public Library will host a series of adult programs in May 2026, including a classical Indian dance performance and a documentary screening focused on children’s technology use.
The month’s schedule begins Tuesday, May 12, with “Steps of Tradition: A South Indian Dance Performance.” In celebration of Asian & Pacific American Heritage Month, Sarada Nori, artistic director of Layavinyasa School of Music, will perform South Indian classical dance. The 7 p.m. program includes stories from Hindu scriptures and interactive segments where the audience can learn the “Dandia Raas” folk dance and “mudras,” or hand gestures.
On Tuesday, May 19, the library will mark Mental Health Awareness Month with a screening of the documentary “Screenagers: Elementary School Age Edition.” The film, directed by primary care physician Dr. Ruston, explores the impact of technology on child development and offers guidance on managing device distractions and video game use.

A post-screening discussion will be facilitated by retired kindergarten teacher Adrienne Ferretti, mental health clinician Katie Lynch, and Mandy Miranda, director of Youth and Social Services. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the library’s Community Room.
The final event, “Connecticut’s Nocturnal Critters & Their Calls,” will take place Wednesday, May 27, at 7 p.m. Master Wildlife Conservationist Ginny Apple will discuss the habits and habitats of local wildlife such as opossums, porcupines, and owls.
The dance performance and wildlife talk are hybrid programs, allowing for both in-person attendance and virtual viewing via Facebook Live or Zoom.
Registration is required for all events. Interested participants can find additional details and registration links at wallingfordlibrary.org.
