Connecticut Sun Announces 2022 Season Theme Nights
Uncasville, CT (April 25, 2022) – Today, the Connecticut Sun announced their Theme Nights for the 2022 season. In honor of the franchise’s 20th Anniversary season, it will be hosting a slew of exciting theme nights, packed with lots of surprises for Connecticut Sun fans.
To tip-off the season, the Connecticut Sun will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary with a celebration at its home-opening game against the Los Angeles Sparks at Mohegan Sun Arena at 7:00 P.M. EST. The Sun will be honoring Connecticut Sun legend, Asjha Jones, by placing her number alongside other Sun greats in the rafters of Mohegan Sun Arena.
May is Mental Health Month; and accordingly, on May 20 at 7:00 P.M. EST during its game against the Indiana Fever, the Sun will be hosting Community Night presented by Yale New Haven Health, where the focus of the night will be on the importance of Mental Health. The Sun will be providing mental health tips, while spotlighting essential workers from all different walks of life. To close out the franchise’s May theme nights, Connecticut is throwing it back with 90’s Throwback Thursday presented by MoheganSunCasino.com. The 90’s Throwback Thursday night, taking place on May 26 at 7:00 P.M EST against the Dallas Wings, will feature iconic 90’s music, entertainment, fashion and more.
June will hold three powerful theme nights, rooted in social activism. On June 10 at 7:00 P.M. EST against the Chicago Sky, the Sun will be celebrating Pride Month with its annual Pride Night. The night will be a celebration of inclusion, featuring openly gay golf social media personality, Tisha Alyn. Entertainment will be provided all night long, courtesy of various members of the LGBTQ+ community. Additionally, the Sun will be raising money for OutCT through several fundraising initiatives. June 17 is Connecticut’s Change Can’t Wait night. On Change Can’t Wait night, the Sun will face off against the Seattle Storm at 7:00 P.M. EST and shine the spotlight on all of the Connecticut community partners and initiatives that the franchise works with. Concluding June’s theme nights is Title IX night, taking place on June 22 at 7:00 P.M. EST against the New York Liberty. The Sun will host a handful of basketball Hall of Famers on this night and celebrate their contributions to the game and the advancement of girls and women in all sports. The night will also begin with a Title IX pre-game panel (details to be released at a later date).
Breast Health Awareness presented by Yale New Haven Health will tip off the first of July’s two theme nights. Breast Health Awareness, which coincides with the Sun’s game against the Las Vegas Aces at 1:00 P.M. EST on July 17, will honor survivors, provide tips on early detection, and raise money for the Kay Yow Foundation. The second July theme night is Blaze’s Birthday. During the Sun’s game on July 31 at 1:00 P.M. EST against the Chicago Sky, mascots from across the country will be in attendance to celebrate Blaze’s 18th Birthday. Fans are encouraged to bring their kids and help the Sun make Blaze’s birthday a day he will never forget.
August will be yet another action-packed month for the Sun. To start, the Sun will host Creators of Culture presented by Post University. The game will be the first of a back-to-back series with the Phoenix Mercury, starting at 7:00 P.M. EST on August 2. Fans can enjoy a night of creativity, as the Sun bring in a group of content creators who will share their vision of storytelling and why it’s important. On August 4 at 7:00 P.M. EST against the Mercury, the Sun will host Women of Inspiration presented by Post University. This night allows Connecticut and their fans to honor many special women and their contributions to inspiring the next generation of leaders. The Sun will put the spotlight on the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame and the next recipient of the Annual Gladys Tantaquidgeon Award. The final theme night of the 20thanniversary season is Fan Appreciation Night on August 14 at 1:00 P.M. EST, during the Sun’s final home game against the Minnesota Lynx. The night will be all about celebrating Connecticut Sun fans, featuring fun giveaways and photo opportunities.
