Trinity College unveils major financial aid initiatives for local students

Trinity College has announced three new financial aid programs aimed at making higher education more affordable for local students. The college is also eliminating its application fee for all prospective applicants.
The Hometown Hartford program will cover full tuition, housing, and meals for admitted students whose primary residence is in the city of Hartford. The initiative expands on existing partnerships with local groups such as Capital Squash, Hartford Youth Scholars, and Hartford Promise.
Trinity College President Dan Lugo highlighted the historic connection between the institution and the city, pointing to an 1872 investment by local citizens to build the campus. Lugo noted that the new funding continues that relationship by supporting Hartford residents.
Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam praised the full-scholarship program for removing financial barriers for city residents. He noted that the initiative builds a direct bridge to opportunity for local youth and supports the future workforce.
Under the Centered in Connecticut program, Trinity will provide half-tuition grants to admitted students residing in Hartford County as well as Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, and Tolland counties. The offer aims to make the college a more accessible choice for high-achieving students throughout the region.
A third initiative, named Honoring Our Own, offers full-tuition benefit coverage for children of Trinity faculty and staff. Eligibility requires parents to have completed three or more consecutive years of full-time employment at the college.
All three financial aid opportunities and the fee waiver will go into effect for students applying for the 2027–2028 academic year. Further details regarding eligibility and deadlines are available through the college admissions office.
