Town Players of New Canaan offers a bucket list of acting and improv workshops
The Town Players of New Canaan, now in its 77th season of community theater production, has long been a welcoming center for theater education and mentoring, offering instruction in skills for both on and behind the stage. This fall, however, presents an especially broad range of opportunities for adults who would like some acting experience..
TPNC’s Creative Director, Deborah Burke, will be offering her popular acting class, which meets weekly starting September 12, and continues through the end of October. Concentrating on scene study and monologues, her course explores all the manifold aspects of acting – from creating a character and achieving conversational tone on stage to diction and movement. Both beginners and more experienced thespians ages 16+ are welcome. It is good to register early for this class, as its size is limited, and Deborah’s students typically return time after time..
The Town Players of New Canaan will also feature two one-day workshops for teens and adults the weekend of September 16th and 17th.. On Saturday, the 16th , Nancy Meyer, a longtime improv performer and coach (and author of the book, Teaching Improv Skills) returns to the Powerhouse Theatre in Waveny Park for a fast paced afternoon of improvisation techniques for ages 14-120. In the words of one of her Powerhouse Theatre students, Nancy’s workshop is “serious fun, offering aspiring actors exercises that will maximize their comfort level on stage.”
Sunday of that same weekend at The Powerhouse Theatre, the award winning “The Chris and Paul Show” duo will host a one day workshop in physical comedy, clowning, and pantomime. Based in Stamford, CT, Christoper John O’Neill and Paul Valenti have toured the United States and Europe with their Vaudeville-inspired comedy. Praised by The Washington Post, and pronounced by critics alternately as “edgy,” “intelligent,” and “hilarious,” Chris and Paul were finalists on NBC’s contest, Bring The Funny; and Chris is well known for his three year run on Broadway playing Elder Cunningham in The Book of Mormon..
