The Maritime Aquarium receives a $150,000 grant from Chubb, ConnectiCare and Santa Energy for solar-powered energy

The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk has received a $150,000 grant to support the design and installation of additional rooftop solar panels through the Connecticut Neighborhood Assistance Act (NAA) Tax Credit Program.
This grant was funded with a generous $135,000 investment from Chubb, a world leader in insurance, as well as gifts of $10,000 from ConnectiCare and $5,000 from Santa Energy.
“The Maritime Aquarium is determined to reduce our carbon footprint in our core operations, and this investment helps us take an important step toward delivering on our commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2035,” said Jason Patlis, President and CEO of The Maritime Aquarium. “We are so grateful to Chubb for their long-standing support of green energy solutions that further our mission of conservation, and to ConnectiCare and Santa Energy for their support of our work to protect our planet.”
The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk replicates the natural habitats of a variety of species, relying on life support filtration systems and specific water temperatures that run 24/7. The additional solar panels will reduce the facility’s pull on the grid while ensuring a continuously safe and healthy environment.
“The Maritime Aquarium is a leader of environmental education and conservation in Connecticut, and this project reflects our shared commitment to long-term sustainability and resilience,” said Jon Pensa, Senior Vice President and New Haven Branch Manager at Chubb. “We’re proud this grant will help advance the Aquarium’s mission in a way that delivers lasting benefits to the communities we serve.”
Joining Patlis and Pensa for the presentation of the check were Michael Dimler, Vice President, Commercial Insurance Manager of Chubb; Dave Truedson, Chief Operating Officer of The Maritime Aquarium; Mark Fries, Senior Vice President of Assured Partners; and Alicia Sells, Associate Director of Advancement of The Maritime Aquarium.
The NAA Tax Credit Program is designed to provide funding for municipal and tax-exempt organizations by providing a corporation business tax credit for businesses who make cash contributions to these entities. To learn about more ways to support the Aquarium, visit www.maritimeaquarium.org/donate.
