The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to highlight Rachel Lenda, Connecticut Tourism Director, in the latest installment of the ‘Community Proud’ series, sponsored by CorePlus Credit Union. As Connecticut opens its doors at The Big E this week, Rachel’s efforts in promoting the state’s rich tourism offerings are more relevant than ever.

Rachel Lenda brings passion, determination, and a personal touch to her role as Connecticut Tourism Director. Known for her “get-it-done” mentality and approachable nature, Rachel engages in meaningful conversations and connections daily. Despite her large responsibilities, she treasures small, authentic moments, stating that it’s these genuine interactions that fuel her commitment to her work.

A go-getter with an extensive background in hospitality, restaurant management, and development, Rachel is a firm believer in bridging gaps within the tourism industry. “I love being able to curate memories for people and leave a lasting imprint,” she shared.

Rachel is a strong advocate for collaboration. She believes that partnerships are crucial in driving success and that the most impactful projects come from working together. “The best products I’ve been a part of have come from collaboration. People connect with projects that matter to them.”

Her enthusiasm for Connecticut is infectious, rooted in her deep ties to the state. Born and raised in Griswold, Rachel now resides in Colchester with her husband and daughter, after spending many years in Groton. She values the people of Connecticut and their personal stories, especially those shared by multi-generational business owners, which give the state its unique charm.

When asked what advice she would give to those looking to make a positive impact, Rachel emphasized the importance of authenticity. “Stay true to who you are. If you have a vision or goal, being genuine will ensure your success.” She also highlighted the need for personal growth while remaining grounded in one’s core values and passion.

In her mission to transform Connecticut from a “drive-through” state into a must-visit destination, Rachel is working on increasing state pride and crafting a harmonious experience for both locals and tourists. Her leadership is making waves, as she proudly holds the distinction of being the first Connecticut-born director of tourism in a generation.

Beyond her professional contributions, Rachel has a remarkable talent for singing. She has dedicated this gift to supporting military and police organizations, regularly volunteering to sing the national anthem at events, including police academy graduations and veterans’ ceremonies.

Rachel’s devotion to her community, her love for Connecticut, and her desire to tell its stories make her an exceptional leader in the tourism industry. She continues to be inspired by the business owners and residents who make Connecticut such a special place. The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is proud to spotlight Rachel Lenda, whose vision and leadership are helping shape the future of Connecticut tourism.
