The Baseball Project will bring fun and catchy songs about baseball to Ridgefield Playhouse on Sunday
Looking for a way to fully embrace America’s favorite pastime this summer? Look no further than The Baseball Project. This band’s dedication to baseball shines through in their lyrics about the game and its iconic heroes, making them the perfect soundtrack for any baseball fan. Catch The Baseball Project live this Sunday at the Ridgefield Playhouse in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and experience the thrill of the game through their music.
The band is made up of rock legends Peter Buck and Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Scott McCaughey (The Minus 5/Young Fresh Fellows), Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate), and Linda Pitmon (Filthy Friends, Steve Wynn & The Miracle 3). The Baseball Project was formed in 2007 at a party for R.E.M’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Scott McCaughey and Steve Wynn met for the first time and had a conversation that boomeranged from music to baseball. They both wanted to work on a project that allowed them to write and record an entire album dedicated to the game of baseball including, past characters and dig deeper into baseball’s deep history. Frozen Ropes and Dying Quails came out in 2008. The Baseball Project has performed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Baseball Hall of Fame, The Chicago Cubs Fanfest, and more!
Its been almost a decade since The Baseball Project released new music. The band recently released Grand Salami Time! Recorded and produced by the band and Mitch Easter (R.E.M’s Chronic Town, Murmur, and Reckoning). The album includes contributions from Steve Berlin from Los Lobos and Stephen McCarthy of the The Long Ryders.
To celebrate the 44th anniversary of Disco Demolition Night at Chicago’s Comiskey Park, the band debuted the video for the single Disco Demolition. The Chicago White Sox held an event at Comiskey Park on July 12, 1979, in between a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers where they invited fans to bring their disco records to blow them up on the field in between games. After the records were destroyed, fans stormed the field and rioted resulting in a forfeited second game and one of the most extreme and bizarre promotions in U.S. sports history.
If you are a baseball fan I wouldn’t miss this show. Or if you are a fan of R.E.M and miss the magic of Peter Buck and Mike Mills performing together here is your chance to see them this Sunday night in Ridgefield. You can purchase tickets here.
