Steep Rock Association is hosting a virtual Winter Speaker Series and invites the public to learn about local wildlife issues, land conservation, sustainable gardening, and the importance of pollinators. Each program aims to inspire participants about the wonders of the natural world and educate them on the importance of local conservation. Programs are carefully crafted to provide valuable insights, practical knowledge, and lively discussion. Participants may attend any or all programs.
Steep Rock will host its second program, “Land Conservation 101: The Why and How of Preserving Your Property” on Thursday, February 22nd from 6:00-7:00 pm. Are you considering the future of your land and its legacy? Are you a first-time conservation easement landowner? Are you interested in land conservation strategies and the benefits to landowners? Join Rory Larson, Steep Rock’s Director of Conservation, and Connie Manes, Director of the Litchfield Hills Greenprint Collaborative, for an enlightening presentation on the benefits of land protection, processes of transactions, responsibilities of land trusts, and how local landowner efforts can contribute to conservation across town and state boundaries.
In addition to the February program, the series continues in March with “Bountiful Backyard Harvests: Mastering Sustainable and Organic Vegetable Gardening” presented by Patrick Horan, co-owner of Waldingfield Farm in Washington. The series concludes in April with John Markelon, President of the Litchfield Land Trust, sharing how to “Establish Pollinator Pathways in Your Backyard.”
