Steep Rock Association Co-Hosting Seniors in Steep Rock Program
Steep Rock Association is pleased to announce the return of our popular “Seniors in Steep Rock” programs. Togetherwith the Washington Senior Center, SRA is hosting four events that promote a vibrant, engaged, and healthy seniorpopulation in Washington and the Litchfield Hills. “Our goal is to offer area seniors fun, low-impact recreational andeducational activities that incorporate the natural beauty and history of our preserves while promoting overall healthand wellness,” stated Brian Hagenbuch, Executive Director of Steep Rock Association.
The first program, “Birding Bonanza: A Senior Exploration in Nature” is June 3rd, 1-2pm, at West Mountain Preserve-Johnson Farm. Participants will walk a fairly level, 0.75-mile trail through open forest, meadows, and fields where avianactivity abounds. Special attention will be given to breeding grassland birds, such as the bobolink, eastern bluebird, andfield sparrow.
The series continues with an “Intergenerational Picnic and Tunnel Tour in Steep Rock Preserve” on July 12; a “JudeaGarden and Camp House Tour and History Presentation” on September 13, and “Steeped in Steep Rock” Coffee Hour atSteep Rock’s office on November 15.
The Seniors in Steep Rock programs are generously supported by a grant from the Connecticut Community Foundation’s“Pathways for Older Adults” program. Events are free and open to the public. Registration is required. For more detailsand registration, visit Steep Rock Association’s website.
