The Staples Players, in collaboration with Westport Pride and the Westport Public Schools Pride Coalition, are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking event: the LGBTQ+ Pride Prom Performance of “The PROM.” This special performance is set to take place on November 12, 2023, and it promises to be an unforgettable afternoon of entertainment, inclusivity, and celebration.
The Staples Players have a long-standing commitment to producing welcoming and inclusive performances, but this time, they are taking it a step further. They are proud to partner with Westport Pride and the Westport Public Schools Pride Coalition to bring you an afternoon of love, acceptance, and theatrical brilliance.
This historic collaboration is designed to create an intentional and affirming space where members of the LGBTQ+ community, their families, and allies can come together to celebrate a momentous occasion. We are excited to make this event as accessible as possible. To secure your place at this extraordinary performance, a block of tickets is being held until November 2. These tickets are for the orchestra level sides and can be collected at the will call.

Four eccentric Broadway stars are in desperate need of a new stage. The town’s parents are determined to keep the high school dance traditional, but when a student just wants to bring her girlfriend to prom, the entire town faces a pivotal moment. In an effort to change lives, Broadway’s boldest join forces with a courageous young girl and the town’s residents, resulting in a story of love that brings them all together. This event is inspired by the true story of Constance McMillen, a senior at Itawamba Agricultural High School in Fulton, Mississippi. Constance’s determination to bring her girlfriend to the senior prom in 2010 led to an inspiring legal battle, culminating in the violation of her First Amendment rights. The story of Constance McMillen serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle for acceptance and inclusivity.
