Stamford Downtown launches Hello Lamp Post Phase 1, letting visitors interact with the City via AI

Stamford Downtown is excited to announce the launch of Hello Lamp Post Phase 1, an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) initiative that brings everyday objects to life and invites the public to interact with Stamford Downtown.

Designed to spark curiosity, conversation, and community input, Hello Lamp Post allows residents, workers, and visitors to engage directly with Stamford Downtown through friendly, text-based conversations with signs on benches, planters, bus shelters, and more. By scanning a posted QR code on participating objects, users can ask questions and share thoughts on everything from public spaces and restaurants to new development and events —right from the sidewalk.

This interactive experience aims to: Foster stronger connections between people and their environment, make community engagement fun, accessible, and inclusive, collect real-time insights that help shape Stamford Downtown’s planning and programming and answer questions about ongoing construction projects and new development.

“Hello Lamp Post will provide another tool by which Stamford Downtown can communicate with residents, students, commuters and visitors,” said Michael Moore, President of Stamford Downtown. “Hello Lamp Post will help Stamford Downtown to provide a wide variety of information about events, construction updates, residential and new business openings by merely accessing the many QR codes that we will install throughout our city center.”

Here’s how to join in: Spot a Hello Lamp Post sign around Stamford Downtown, scan the QR code provided and start chatting with a bench, sign, or even a planter. There’s no app to use for Hello Lamp Post, no sign-up fees or registration forms, only a QR code is required to scan and complete the interaction at your pace and in several languages.
