Real Art Ways partners with Connecticut Science Center for ‘Science on Screen’ film series

Real Art Ways is partnering with the Connecticut Science Center to present its “Science on Screen” film series across the Hartford area while its cinema undergoes expansion.

The collaboration will bring six events to audiences between April and November, combining film screenings with expert-led discussions in science, technology, and medicine.

“We’re honored to host Science on Screen at the Connecticut Science Center and to support Real Art Ways during this exciting period of growth,” said Matt Fleury, president and CEO of the Connecticut Science Center, in a statement.

The program is part of a national initiative launched in 2005 at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in partnership with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. It aims to enhance scientific literacy by pairing films with discussions led by experts in related fields.

Real Art Ways has participated in the program since 2011, previously hosting speakers including Laurie Santos, Arthur Middleton, and Carl Zimmer.

The 2026 series will open April 25 with a screening of “Proforestation: Letting Forests Grow Old,” accompanied by a talk from Susan Masino, whose research focuses on the environmental and public health benefits of preserving mature forests.

Additional films in the lineup include “My Octopus Teacher” on June 13, “Bringing Up Baby” on July 18, “Point Break” on Aug. 15, “Agent of Happiness” on Oct. 17, and “WALL-E” on Nov. 7. Each event begins at 3 p.m.

Organizers said the series is designed to make complex scientific topics more accessible by connecting them to popular films and engaging discussions.

General admission is $12, with discounted tickets available for members, seniors, and students. Events will be held at venues throughout Hartford, including the Connecticut Science Center, located at 250 Columbus Blvd.
