Quick Center to present Castle of our Skins’ I Said What I Said on March 2
Fairfield University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts is proud to present I Said What I Said by Castle of our Skins on Sunday, March 2 at 4 p.m. The performance will feature a unique blend of music and spoken word, exploring themes of self-expression, personal agency, and creative empowerment.
Castle of our Skins, Boston’s concert and educational series dedicated to celebrating
Black artistry, brings together solo and chamber works by composers Brian Raphael
Nabors, Mason Bynes, Fred Onovwerosuoke, and Damien Geter, along with the
poetry of the 2024-2025 Shirley Graham Du Bois Creative-in-Residence, Carmin
Wong. The performance will invite the audience into an intimate space of reflection,
as the music and poetry interlace to speak to the power of one’s voice in both
personal and collective contexts. By highlighting works from Black composers and
up-and-coming poets, Castle of our Skins celebrates the richness of Black creativity.
Castle of our Skins has built a reputation for its innovative and thoughtful
programming, and I Said What I Said promises to be an extraordinary experience
that reveals the heart of contemporary issues through music, words, and the
transformative power of the arts.
Founded in 2013, Castle of our Skins is a Black arts institution known for its mission
of fostering cultural curiosity and elevating Black voices in classical music. The
organization’s innovative performances create an immersive experience that
engages audiences on multiple levels. With its extensive collaborations with schools,
cultural institutions, and artists, Castle of our Skins has solidified its place as a
leader in the movement to celebrate and elevate Black artistry.
Funded in part by the New England States Touring program of the New England
Foundation for the Arts, and made possible with funding from the National
Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program and the six New England state
arts agencies.
Tickets are now on sale on quickcenter.com for $35, or $25 for Quick Members. For more information, contact the Quick Center Box Office at 203-254-4010, Monday through Friday, from 12 to 5 p.m.
