Quassy Amusement Park kicks off 118th season with charity weekend

Quassy Amusement Park & Waterpark opened its gates for the 118th season this past weekend, continuing a springtime tradition on the shores of Lake Quassapaug that has spanned generations of Connecticut families.

The park’s opening on April 25-26 featured the long-standing “Quassy Cares: Neighbors in Need” initiative. The program allowed guests to purchase all-day ride wristbands for $18 in exchange for a donation of a non-perishable food item or home cleaning product. All donations were collected to support local families and regional nonprofit organizations.

“For many families, coming to Quassy is something they’ve done for years, even generations,” said Eric Anderson, president of Quassy Amusement Park. “Starting the season by giving back to the community is part of who we are. It sets the tone for everything that follows.”

The opening weekend festivities included the “Grandparents Ride Free” promotion and the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday. The hunt, open to children 13 and under, provided candy and prizes for young participants in what has become a staple of the park’s spring schedule.

The celebration is scheduled to continue May 2-3 with a second “Quassy Cares” weekend. The upcoming weekend will also feature Teacher Appreciation Weekend, Bring-A-Buddy days for season pass holders, and Dance Day on May 2, which showcases local performers at the Carousel Theatre.

Quassy will maintain weekend operations from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through May 17. The waterpark is slated to open on select dates beginning May 22 for Memorial Day weekend, with daily operations for the full park and waterpark beginning later in the summer season.
