Playhouse Theatre Academy opens registration for new Playcation Day programs

Playhouse Theatre Academy has opened registration for its first-ever Playcation Days, a new series of single-day programs designed to keep children engaged, creative and connected during school breaks.

The Playcation Day initiative offers age-appropriate theatre-based workshops that focus on building confidence, collaboration and 21st-century skills through hands-on activities, storytelling and imaginative play. Programs will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on select school holiday dates.

The first session, Dream Makers: Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr., is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 19, for children ages 7 to 11. The drama workshop introduces students to the ideals of Martin Luther King Jr. while encouraging creative expression, teamwork and leadership through performance-based activities.

Additional Playcation Days are planned as part of the academy’s Superhero Series. Real-Life Heroes, for ages 5 to 8, will be held Monday, Feb. 16, and will highlight everyday heroes such as firefighters, doctors and scientists through games, storytelling and creative challenges. Fictional Heroes, also for ages 5 to 8, follows on Tuesday, Feb. 17, inviting participants to design their own superhero identities while exploring values such as courage and kindness.

Families who register for both Superhero Series days will receive a $25 discount. Playhouse Theatre Academy also offers early drop-off and late pick-up options for an additional fee, as well as interest-free payment plans, scholarships, sibling and cousin discounts, and free trial classes for new students.

Playhouse Theatre Academy provides professional theatre training for students of all ages and abilities in West Hartford and Simsbury. Through its affiliation with Playhouse on Park, the academy offers access to professional artists, productions and performance opportunities.
