Playhouse on Park will present Singin’ in the Rain from July 16 through August 17, directed by Evan Hoffmann, with music direction by Melanie Guerin and choreography by Robert Mintz. This playful new take on the classic musical transforms the story into a screening event gone hilariously wrong—until a group of super fans step in to save the day.

With a screenplay by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and songs by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed, Singin’ in the Rain is filled with timeless Hollywood hits including “Make ’Em Laugh,” “Good Morning,” and the beloved title song. It captures all the glitz, gossip, and glamor of Tinseltown’s transition from silent films to “talkies.” At its heart, it’s a story of romance, reinvention, and rising to the occasion—on stage and off.

The cast features Daniel Plimpton* (Don Lockwood), Robert Mintz* (Cosmo Brown), Lindsay Gloriana Bohon (Kathy), Carolyn Burke (Lina Lamont), Parker Joh (R.F. Simpson), Julia Solecki (understudy for Lina Lamont), Juno Brosas (Zelda Zanders), Patrick MacLennan (production tenor), Liam Monoghan (swing), and Mallory Cunningham (swing).

Director Evan Hoffmann is an award-winning director, actor, and producer from the Washington, D.C. area, formerly the producing artistic director of NextStop Theatre in Herndon, Virginia. His past directing credits include The Shawshank Redemption, The 39 Steps, Catch Me If You Can, East of Eden, and Into the Woods. He was named an International Fellow at Shakespeare’s Globe in London in 2009.

Tickets are now on sale, ranging from $45 to $55, with seniors, students, and military personnel receiving a $2.50 discount. Performances run from July 18 through August 17 with the following schedule:

Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m.
Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.
Fridays at 8:00 p.m.
Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Sundays at 2:00 p.m., with post-show talkbacks following each Sunday matinee.

Preview performances will take place Wednesday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m., and Thursday, July 17 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Two special performances will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, and Friday, August 8. Tickets for all discounted performances are $25, plus a $2.50 service fee. Group rates are available.
