On September 12th, over 150 guests attended Serendipity, the opening reception for Parkville Art Gallery’s latest exhibit. The event also doubled as a first anniversary celebration, as the Gallery, which exclusively features local art, first opened its doors in September 2024.

The current exhibit includes artists David Borawski, Susan Clinard, Enrique Figueredo, Christine Chaise Greenwood, Peter Greenwood, David Holzman, Gallery Director Miguel Jose Matos, Christina Pitsch, Kelly Trujillo, and Associate Gallery Director Antony Zito. The mediums represented are sculpture, painting, upcycled art, mixed media, printmaking, installation, and blown glass. Each artist was present throughout the evening to discuss their process and vision with visitors.

“The impulse to assign meaning to things comes naturally to humans, especially when they’re engaged with art. What a gift it was to watch our guests witness, absorb, and discuss art at Friday night’s opening. I think it’s one of the many reasons why we need each other, and why we need art,” said Meredith Longo, Managing Director.

In addition to upholding Parkville Art Gallery’s mission of featuring local artists, the event supported neighborhood businesses. Parkville Art Gallery provided complimentary catering services from Distinctive Ideas, and Hartford-based jazz musicians Michael Carabello and Anthony Carabello kicked off the night with live entertainment. DJ Kasey Cortez closed out the event with an eclectic setlist that spanned the age groups in attendance. Dead Language Beer Project, Vino Crudo, and Oh My Ganache, tabled their menus with items for purchase specifically curated for the evening.

“It was the coolest thing I’ve done in Hartford in ages!!!” said Tess, a first-time visitor to the Gallery. She continues: “I meant to tell you how impressed I was by the whole thing. The art. The food. The vibes!!! Extremely on point.”

Parkville Art Gallery guests mingled and made their way through the expansive 4,000 square foot space located at 1429 Park Street in the Parkville neighborhood of Hartford. The building was constructed as a tire factory in the 1920’s; while many things within the walls of the now mixed-use space have changed, the original high ceilings and large columns make it the perfect space for art.
