Palmer-Warner House in East Haddam to host second annual Pipes & Cider Event

On Saturday, September 13, from 1 pm to 4 pm, join the Palmer-Warner House for its second annual Pipes & Cider event, where the rich traditions of Scotland come alive. Guests will enjoy local tastings from Yankee Cider Co., featuring barrel-aged whiskey and cider. Coreyanne Armstrong and the Portland & District Pipers will perform a lively set accompanied by a short walk around the historic property’s grounds, weather permitting. Plus, bring your friends and test your knowledge with a round of pub trivia.

Pipes & Cider is returning to the Palmer-Warner House after the successful launch of the event last autumn, which welcomed visitors from across the state to raise a glass, embrace the music, and celebrate the magic of Scotland. The historic house museum will welcome back East Haddam-based Yankee Cider Co., who specializes in crafting New England Style hard ciders from locally grown apples. The event will also feature a performance by the Portland & District Pipers. The creation of two well-regarded pipers, Coreyanne Armstrong and Matthew Phelps, the Portland, CT-based group performs throughout the northeast. After exploring the Palmer-Warner grounds during a bagpipe-led trail walk, return to the historic barn for a round of pub trivia. One of the three trivia categories will feature questions based on the historical fantasy television series, Outlander, which takes place in Scotland. Attendees are encouraged to dress in Outlander attire. Prizes will be awarded to the top two teams.

Tours of the Palmer-Warner House, a Connecticut Landmarks museum, will be available during the event for regular admission between 1 pm and 4 pm, with the last tour at 3 pm. Experience the home Frederic Palmer and Howard Metzger made in what they called “the wilds of Connecticut.” Frederic Palmer turned the Palmer-Warner House, which he lovingly called Dunstaffnage as a nod to his Scottish heritage, into a safe place for his LGBTQ+ friends, neighbors, and family to gather and enjoy life unhindered by societal norms. There are two types of tickets available for the Pipes & Cider event. The “Adult + Tasting” ticket costs $40 a person and includes the cider and whiskey tastings, bagpipe performance, and pub trivia. Attendees must be 21+ to partake in tastings. The “Adult” ticket costs $20 a person and includes the bagpipe performance and pub trivia.
