Obama and Bush-era advisors headline Fairfield University’s Fall Open VISIONS Forum
Fairfield University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts is bringing two former White House insiders — one from the Obama administration and one from the Bush era — to campus this fall for a new season of the Philip I. Eliasoph Open VISIONS Forum (OVF). Now in its 28th year, the lecture series continues its mission of fostering dialogue across political, cultural, and spiritual divides.
The fall lineup features interfaith leader Eboo Patel, PhD, and Republican strategist and CNN political analyst Scott Jennings — two influential voices whose careers have spanned politics, religion, and public service. Together, they represent the OVF’s long-standing commitment to balanced, thought-provoking discussions on the issues shaping American life.
Their appearances are part of Fairfield University’s America250: The Promise and Paradox initiative, a yearlong series marking the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States through interdisciplinary events exploring democracy, identity, and civic engagement.

Eboo Patel: “A Conversation on Faith and Democracy”

Wednesday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m.
Founder and president of Interfaith America, Eboo Patel has spent more than two decades promoting religious diversity and civic cooperation. A member of President Barack Obama’s Inaugural Faith Council and one of U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Leaders,” Patel’s work centers on building bridges between people of different beliefs to strengthen democracy.
A Rhodes Scholar with a doctorate from Oxford University, Patel has written extensively on the intersection of faith and civic life, including five acclaimed books. At Fairfield, he’ll share insights from his years of leadership in interfaith dialogue — and why he believes pluralism is vital to the American project.
Scott Jennings: “Inside Politics with a Bush-Era Strategist”

Monday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m.
Known for his sharp political insight and bipartisan candor, Scott Jennings brings the perspective of a veteran Republican strategist and CNN commentator. Jennings served as deputy director of political affairs under President George W. Bush, has advised four presidential campaigns, and teaches at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
Nicknamed “The Black Sheep of CNN” for his willingness to challenge narratives, Jennings will offer a behind-the-scenes look at Washington politics and discuss what lies ahead for American democracy in an age of polarization and media transformation.
