Norwich Sea Unicorns to celebrate 30th season of Dodd Stadium
Plans Underway to Relive Memories From Dodd Stadium’s Past
The Norwich Sea Unicorns are excited to announce preliminary plans to celebrate the history of Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium throughout the 2024 season. Opening in April of 1995, Dodd Stadium was considered a state-of-the-art facility, even drawing praise from then Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig prior to the Opening Day game for the Norwich Navigators. Over the years, the teams and levels of baseball have changed, but one thing has remained the same: Dodd Stadium is a great venue for affordable, family- friendly entertainment in Southeastern Connecticut.
The 2024 schedule is currently under construction by the Futures League, and the Sea Unicorns will play 31 home games. The tentative plans are to celebrate a different year of Dodd Stadium’s history during each home game, starting with the 2nd game of the season (the home opener will be a final celebration of the Sea Unicorns 2023 Futures League Championship).
“We are very excited to have so much going on at Dodd Stadium right now,” said Sea Unicorns General Manager Lee Walter, Jr. “Beginning with the 2022 season, fan engagement with the Sea Unicorns has been incredible. Attendance climbed 53% over 2021 numbers during the 2022 season. Incredibly, we saw another 21% increase in 2023. Now, coming off of a championship run and being able to celebrate Dodd Stadium’s 30th season of baseball, we feel like 2024 will be our best year yet”.
Norwich Sea Unicorns season ticket memberships to The Captain’s Club are currently on sale. Premium seats are $325 and Reserved seats are $300. Both packages also offer a $25 discount for seniors age 60 and over, children 12 and under, and all Military personnel. The Create Your Own Mini Plans, with the Premium seats available for $110 and the Reserved seats available for $100, are going on sale in November. The Norwich Sea Unicorns are located at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Connecticut. The front office and box office are open daily from 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday and can be accessed in person or by calling 860-887-7962. Sea Unicorns merchandise is available anytime by visiting goseaunicorns.com.
Founded in 2011, the Futures League is a wood-bat league featuring top collegiate baseball players from New England and throughout the country. More than two million fans have attended FCBL games since the league was established. On the field, over 200 FCBL alumni have been drafted by or signed with Major League Baseball organizations, including pitcher Tyler Bashlor (South Georgia College/Pittsburgh Pirates), outfielder Chris Shaw (Boston College/Baltimore Orioles) and pitcher Aaron Civale (Northeastern University/Cleveland Indians) who have already debuted in Major League Baseball. The eight team league also includes the New Britain Bees (New Britain, CT), Vermont Lake Monsters (Burlington, VT), Brockton Rox (Brockton, MA), Nashua Silver Knights (Nashua, NH), Pittsfield Suns (Pittsfield, MA), Westfield Starfires (Westfield, MA), and Worcester Bravehearts (Worcester, MA).
