Norwalk’s Washington Street shines with new retailers
Sundown Ski & Patio, Jean’s Closet, Stay True Body Piercing and Fine Jewelry Fill, and Unique Restaurant Concepts Ignite the Block
Long Island-based retailer Sundown Ski & Patio opened up at 123 Washington Street at the start of the month, just in time for patio season. A leader in premium outdoor and patio furniture, featuring a wide selection of umbrellas, outdoor dining sets, seating, chaise lounges, and fire pits, morphs into a winter recreational oasis when the temperature drops, offering winter sports equipment, apparel, and rental equipment. Owner Jake Mandel and his family, avid skiers, took over the 70-year-old Greenvale, NY, store 3 years ago and recently made themselves at home on Washington Street, testing the waters for a CT location.
Jean’s Closet, a local business on Washington Street since 2018, has recently relocated to a more prominent spot at 139 Washington Street, the former Beadworks location. This store is a haven for knitting, crocheting, and crafts enthusiasts, both amateurs and professionals. Owner Jean Smith, a crafting and crocheting expert, has turned her passion into a thriving business. She offers one of the largest selections of premium yarn brands and handmade fashions, accessories, home designs, and gifts. As an educator, Jean is committed to keeping the art of crochet alive in the community. She conducts classes at local high schools, community colleges, and even at her store, fostering a sense of community and shared interest.
Stay True Body Piercing and Fine Jewelry is opening at 129 Washington Street by summer’s end. It will utilize the former Salon Halo and Jean’s Closet space, knocking down a wall to create one large space. Stay True is a professional piercing and fine jewelry studio led by owner and founder Alexis Silva. Alexis and his team have been in business for 10 years and are based in Newington, CT. South Norwalk will be the brand’s second location. Stay True carries the industry’s highest quality body jewelry, from basic implant-grade titanium to an extensive selection of yellow, white, and rose gold pieces. Body piercings are conducted in the safest and most professional environments.
Get ready for a culinary adventure with the upcoming restaurants Music & Industry (an original concept by cb5 Hospitality, a French brasserie hangout for musicians and restaurant industry folks) and Cheese & Bread (From Brooklyn, CT’s first Georgian restaurant). Stay tuned for more details!
