Music Theatre of Connecticut’s reading series continues this month with a powerful new play read by an all-star cast!

Music Theatre of Connecticut, Fairfield County’s professional, award-winning theatre company, currently in its 36th Season, brings the return of New Voices, MTC’s reading series. Featuring five new plays by contemporary playwrights, this series will begin on October 11th at 7pm with the play Closet Space by Jane M. Lee. Following readings will occur on November 15th, February 7th, March 21st, and April 11th, all at 7pm.

Closet Space opens when semi-closeted Margaret’s homophobic mother just died. Now she’s determined to change the trajectory of her failed romantic life. Enter new love interest Shelly, a professional organizer who can’t organize her own life, and old flame Kendra, who just might be the one who got away. As Shelly helps Margaret unearth both the contents of her (literal) closets and the roots of her (metaphorical) baggage, Margaret must confront a lifetime of fears to discover what she really wants from life and what’s holding her back from it.

Playwright Jane M. Lee lives and writes in New York City.  Her work has been performed across the United States, as well as in Canada and Hong Kong.  Her play Good Neighbors was a finalist for the Todd McNerney National Playwriting Award.

This women-written show will be directed and acted by an all-women team. The reading will be directed by Amy Griffin (B’way- How the Grinch Stole Christmas) and feature four all-star actors including Alison Lea Bender (American Stage- HAIR, Laurie Beechman- Fame), Janet Dickinson (B’way- Bullets Over Broadway, How The Grinch Stole Christmas), Cristina Farrugia (StONC- Grease, Delaware TC- South Pacific), and Sara Fetgatter (Savannah Rep- Importance of Being Earnest, Bristol Valley- Les Miserables).

Following Closet Space will be Occupied by Aly Kantor on November 15th, Seeing Violet by Peter Snoad on February 7th, Heading Out by Robert Schneider on March 21st, and Taming the Lion by Jack Rushen on April 11th

Ticket prices for all readings are $20 and can be purchased online (http://www.musictheatreofct.com/newvoices) or over the phone (203-454-3883). MTC is located at 509 Westport Ave. in Norwalk, CT.
