Slaves, Freeman & Haitians in the American Revolution: Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Black History Month lecture: “Slaves, Freemen & Haitians in the American Revolution: Between a Rock and a Hard Place,” presented by Eric Chandler. This thought-provoking event will take place on Sunday, February 25, 2024, 2:00-3:30pm at Mill Hill Historic Park – Town House, 2 East Wall Street, Norwalk, CT.
The presentation will delve into the untold stories of People of Color, as well as many of their White comrades in arms during the American Revolution. Shedding light on their significant contributions and motivations. From fighting for both the Rebels and Redcoats to the impact of their participation on emancipation and freedom, exploring the complexities of this pivotal period in history.
Eric Chandler, a seasoned expert with 50 years of experience in American Revolutionary War Living History, will guide us through this illuminating journey. As a member of the Norwalk Historical Commission and the Norwalk Historical Society’s Board of Directors, Chandler brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to this presentation.
Eric Chandler
Retired from a 30+ year career as an underwriter for a leading land title insurance company, Eric Chandler has been deeply involved in American Revolutionary War Living History since 1974. His portrayals of various roles, from infantry to mounted and dismounted dragoons, highlight his dedication to historical accuracy and storytelling.
