Mystic Seaport Museum receives a 2024 Award of Merit for its new scholarly journal, Mainsheet
Mystic Seaport Museum (75 Greenmanville Ave, Mystic, CT 06355), has been honored with an Award of Merit from the Connecticut League of Museums (CLM) for the inaugural issue of Mainsheet: A Journal of Multidisciplinary Maritime Studies.
Mainsheet is a peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary journal of maritime studies published twice a year by Mystic Seaport Museum. Scholarly research articles of the highest caliber are interspersed with photo essays, collections spotlights, book reviews, art, and poetry. Mainsheet offers a rigorous, beautiful, and enlightening perspective on contemporary maritime studies.
In a letter from CLM, Mainsheet is described as “a truly interdisciplinary set of topics and perspectives, and provides a well-researched and in-depth exploration of those topics. It is a great example of making museum scholarship relevant, conveying important stories in a way that reaches audiences effectively.”
The Connecticut League of Museums awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, October 22, at 5:30 p.m. at the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks.
Mainsheet is intended to be global in outlook, useful across academic fields, and accessible to non-academic readers. The first issue, published in March 2024, delved into the theme of maritime social history. The upcoming second issue will focus on maritime technologies, livelihoods and economies. Future issues will address a variety of topics in all aspects of maritime studies.
In addition to a full-color, perfect-bound print edition, all articles are also available open access on the publication website. Paid subscriptions to the print journal help support the Museum’s commitment to open research in maritime studies.
