Mystic Seaport Museum presents the Firefighter Festival and the 33rd Annual Antique Marine Engine Expo this weekend
Mystic Seaport Museum (75 Greenmanville Ave, Mystic, CT 06355), in partnership with the Mystic Fire Department, is excited to announce the Firefighter Festival on August 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This special event honors first responders and promises a day filled with exciting demonstrations, displays, and activities for the entire family. The Firefighter Festival will feature a variety of emergency response boats and vehicles, providing visitors the opportunity to learn about fire safety, prevention, and first response careers.Â
The fireboat FIRE FIGHTER, proudly maintained by The Fireboat Fire Fighter Museum, won’t be able to join us this year as it is currently undergoing essential preservation work to ensure its legacy endures for future generations. This iconic vessel, which played a crucial role during some of our nation’s most challenging times is currently docked in Rhode Island.
Families and kids of all ages can look forward to an array of interactive activities and exciting demonstrations, including a fire-themed bounce house, a fire hose display on the National Historic Landmark vessel SABINO, a car extrication demo featuring the jaws of life, a harness rescue on the rigging of the whaleship CHARLES W. MORGAN , and Newfoundland rescue dogs in action on AUSTRALIA Beach! Additionally, head to the Village Green for the Antique Hand Pumper Contest.
This event is free for Members and included in general admission for non-members. We’re thrilled to also offer FREE admission for all first responders attending this event. For more information, please visit here.
In addition to the Firefighter Festival, the 33rd Annual Antique Marine Engine Expo will take place on August 17–18, 2024. This event, one of the oldest major marine engine shows in the nation, features over 300 exhibits. Exhibitors from near and far will showcase engines, many operating as well as the day they were first purchased.
The Antique Marine Engine Expo will be held at the Henry B. du Pont Preservation Shipyard at Mystic Seaport Museum. Attendees can enjoy steamers huffing and puffing, inboards chugging, outboards stirring up water, and models converting air pressure or electricity into rotary power. This noisy, greasy, fun event is a stroll through marine engine history.
