MTC MainStage concludes 39th season with Dolly Parton’s ‘9 to 5 The Musical’

Music Theatre of Connecticut (MTC) MainStage will close its 39th professional season with the high-energy production of 9 to 5 The Musical, featuring music and lyrics by country music legend Dolly Parton.

Based on the 1980 hit film, the musical is scheduled to run from April 17 through May 3 at the MTC MainStage theater located at 509 Westport Ave.

Set in the late 1970s, the story follows three female coworkers—Violet, Doralee, and Judy—who reach their breaking point under a “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” of a boss. The trio concocts a plan to kidnap their superior and seize control of the office, ultimately implementing a workplace makeover that empowers the employees.

The production features a cast of seasoned Broadway and regional talent, including Gina Lamparella (The Phantom of the Opera) as Violet, Joe Cassidy (Waitress) as the antagonist Franklin Hart, Hannah Bonnett as Doralee, and Elissa DeMaria as Judy.

The creative team is led by director Amy Griffin, music director Zachary Anderson, and choreographer Clint Hromsco. The production includes scenic design by Starlet Jacobs and costume design by Diane Vanderkroef.

Performances are held Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m.

The season is supported by the Burry Fredrik Foundation, the Schnurmacher Foundation, and the State of Connecticut DECD/COA.
