M&T Bank Center at Gampel Pavilion to Be New Name of UConn Basketball Arena

M&T Bank has announced an expanded partnership with the University of Connecticut that includes multi-year naming rights for Gampel Pavilion. Under the agreement, the arena in Storrs will be renamed M&T Bank Center at Gampel Pavilion. The bank is already the official bank of the university and the UConn Huskies.

The multimillion-dollar partnership will support academic and athletic priorities at UConn. It is intended to help expand educational opportunities, invest in student achievement and strengthen the university’s impact across Connecticut and New England. It also includes Connecticut-focused, co-branded activations and community engagements, such as retail bank promotions, paid advertising and digital media inclusion.

As the Official Bank of UConn, M&T Bank will receive exclusive university-wide banking sponsorship covering all campuses and schools. The bank will also be the official banking partner of the Huskies and will sponsor key university-wide events. Other terms include support for student-athletes in Name, Image and Likeness opportunities and a co-branded affinity credit card and commercial cards for bank customers.

“This partnership with UConn represents more than a sponsorship and a name on a building, it’s a shared commitment to the future of education, economic mobility and civic leadership across our region,” said Michael Weinstock, M&T Bank’s Regional President in Hartford. He added that the bank is proud to stand alongside Connecticut’s flagship university to invest in programs and in an arena that create lasting impact for students, families and communities.

UConn President Radenka Maric said the agreement continues and enhances the relationship between the university and the bank. She credited the General Assembly and Gov. Ned Lamont for the improvements currently underway at Gampel Pavilion, which she said will bring the venue into the next generation. Maric said M&T’s commitment builds on those investments and will help promote holistic student success across the institution.

UConn Director of Athletics David Benedict said the arena has been home to many great memories over the last 36 years. “We are grateful to our partners at M&T Bank for their ongoing commitment to our mission for excellence,” he said. Benedict said the investment from the state and support from M&T Bank will help ensure continued success for UConn athletics.

Gampel Pavilion opened in 1990 and has served as the home of UConn basketball and a central gathering place for the university community. The arena has hosted championship teams, nationally televised matchups, commencement ceremonies, concerts and community events.

M&T Bank has more than 100 branches in Connecticut and serves consumers, businesses, municipalities and nonprofit organizations. The bank says it has invested in economic development, education, neighborhood revitalization and financial empowerment across the state.
