Milford Public Library kicks off January with programs for kids and adults

The Milford Public Library is offering a packed lineup of events for all ages throughout January 2026, ranging from early literacy programs for children to workshops, lectures, and creative meet-ups for adults.

Adult Programs

Adults can start the month with the Tuesday Movie Matinee at 2 p.m. on Jan. 6 and Jan. 20, featuring films for a relaxed afternoon of cinema. Crafters of all skill levels are invited to the Milford Makers Meet-Up on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 6 p.m., to knit, crochet, or work on any portable craft while enjoying coffee and conversation.

Gayme Night with Milford Pride on Wednesday, Jan. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m., welcomes participants of all ages to play board games, either provided or brought from home. On Thursday, Jan. 8, Kristin Hotchkiss leads The Art of Wintering at 6:30 p.m., a reflective session focused on mindfulness, outdoor practices, and seasonal wellness.

For those seeking support, The Caring Network, a grief support group from Bridges Healthcare, meets Monday, Jan. 12, at 10:30 a.m. Tips for Flourishing with Dr. Wendy Hurwitz will be offered Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 6:30 p.m., sharing strategies for well-being and thriving.

Other offerings include Astrophotography for Beginners on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 6:30 p.m.; Sun Salutation with Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh USA on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 10:30 a.m., which includes yoga and breathing exercises; and a session with the Inventors Association of Connecticut on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 5:30 p.m., highlighting the challenges of bringing inventions to market.

Looking ahead to February, “Let’s Get Together” Open Mic Night with Milford’s Poet Laureate Elaine Nadal will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 6 p.m., inviting musicians and poets to perform.

Children’s Programs

The library’s Winter Storytime sessions run Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 6 through Feb. 5. Programs include sessions for babies, toddlers, walkers, and preschoolers, offering songs, fingerplays, and stories that support early literacy.

Hands-on programs include Lego® Builders on Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 6 to 7 p.m. for grades K-5, and Music Together® Singalong on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 10:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. for ages 0-5, which combines music, movement, and early childhood development.

Readers in grades 2-5 can celebrate Percy Jackson during Fans of Fiction on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 6 p.m., featuring games and trivia inspired by Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters. Family-oriented programs include Goodnight, Libraryon Thursday, Jan. 15, at 6 p.m., offering stories and crafts for children ages 5 and under.

Other highlights include Raptors & Reptiles with Christine’s Critters on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 2:30 p.m., where children can meet rescued birds of prey and reptiles; a Pokémon Meet-Up on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 4 p.m.; and Frozen Storytime with Princess Elsa on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 3:45 p.m., for ages 3-7, featuring songs, stories, and a chance to meet Elsa.

All children’s programs are free, but some require registration. Adults and children are encouraged to check the library’s online calendar at milfordlibrary.org for details, registration links, and updates. Programs are generously sponsored by the Friends of the Milford Public Library.
