Mermaid Books makes a splash in Downtown Milford with grand opening celebration

The Milford Regional Chamber of Commerce proudly celebrated the grand opening of Mermaid Books (22 Broad St, Milford, CT 06460) on October 14th with a ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside Mayor Tony Giannattasio, local officials, and community members.

Owner Kristen Mascia has dreamed of opening a bookstore for more than two decades. After years of envisioning the perfect space, she began actively researching locations over two years ago, eventually finding the ideal spot in downtown Milford. Mascia signed the lease in February, and by June, Mermaid Books officially opened its doors to the public.

A Milford resident of four years, Mascia and her family were inspired to create a welcoming space for local readers after realizing the city didn’t have a dedicated bookstore. Mascia’s goal was to create a space that fosters community and a welcoming place where readers can come together and share their love of books. She felt that Milford’s downtown, with its vibrant and walkable atmosphere, was the perfect home for Mermaid Books.

Mermaid Books offers a thoughtfully curated selection of reads with an emphasis on fiction and children’s books. The shop invites readers of all ages to explore a range of genres, from contemporary novels and classics to picture books and young adult favorites. Mermaid Books is continuously expanding its collection and plans to add more shelves in the coming months to accommodate a growing inventory. They aim to have a little something for everyone!
