Lyman Orchards’ Pick for Pink fundraiser tops $500 for breast care

Visitors to Lyman Orchards in Middlefield picked more than 9 tons of pumpkins during the first weekend of October as part of the farm’s Pick for Pink fundraiser. The effort benefits the Middlesex Health Comprehensive Breast Center.

On weekends and holidays in October, Lyman Orchards is donating 2.85 cents for every pound of pumpkins picked in its Pick Your Own Pumpkin fields. The amount is a nod to the farm’s 285th anniversary in 2026. The 18,000 pounds picked the first weekend have generated more than $500 in donations so far.

“We have a bountiful pumpkin crop this year and we look forward to a strong turnout to support the great work at Middlesex Health,” said John Lyman III, executive vice president of Lyman Orchards. Pick for Pink will continue on weekends and Columbus Day in October.

Pumpkins are priced by size. Small pumpkins, 1 to 10 pounds, cost $8, and medium pumpkins, 10 to 15 pounds, cost $11. Large pumpkins, 15 to 20 pounds, cost $14, and jumbo pumpkins, 20 pounds or more, cost $17.

The pumpkin fields are at 105 South St. in Middlefield. Visitors should follow the signs along the side of the road to the designated parking location, since field locations may vary by day. The fundraiser applies to pumpkins picked at Lyman Orchards’ Pick Your Own locations.

Lyman Orchards also is supporting cancer-related causes through its seasonal corn maze. A portion of ticket proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society and the Connecticut Cancer Foundation.

Other seasonal activities at the farm include pick your own apples and the Apple Barrel Farm Market. More information about Pick for Pink and Pick Your Own Pumpkins is available on the Lyman Orchards website.
