Lyman Allyn Art Museum receives federal grants for collections care
The Lyman Allyn Art Museum is honored to announce that it has been awarded grant funding for collections care from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
The Museum has been awarded $151,631 by IMLS for further work in the preservation and digital documentation of its prized collection. The three-year grant supports enhanced collections stewardship, allowing the Museum to improve intellectual and physical control of the collection and increase accessibility through comprehensive inventory and assessment of collections and digitization of collections records. The project will result in better
preservation and online access to the collection for researchers and the public.
The Lyman Allyn also received $9,981 from NEH in preservation assistance for the purchase of storage cabinetry and preservation supplies to rehouse approximately 300 works of art on paper ranging from sixteenth century to present. This continues and extends the work of previous grant projects to rehouse objects stored in damaging and inefficient storage situations.
“We are extremely honored to receive the support and have the confidence of both of these important federal agencies as the Museum prepares to further its mission and make the collection widely accessible,” said Sam Quigley, Director of the Lyman Allyn Art Museum. “We are excited to further the steps to improve our collections management.”
